A great lesson starter to get your students to remember character’s names and themes from the play. Instructions: Cut out the images on the grid sheet and place them inside of a container. Give each player a bingo card. As you draw an image from the container, ask the players to cross them out on their grid sheet. The first player who gets 3 in a row, wins the first round! A fun English game designed for my KS3 class to help them with their creative writing. The board contains a series of 5 prompts which will allow the learner to build their story: setting, main character, genre, main theme and conflict. Give the student a dice piece. They will roll the dice piece 5 times moving from left to right of the board. for example: The first number is a 4 which refers to the setting. Therefore, their story will be set on a train. The next number rolled is a 1, which mean the genre will be gothic / horror. the learner will then write a short story based on what they rolled on the prompt board. # E.g: A gothic short story set on a train featuring a teenage boy. The main theme is survival with the conflict in the story being the character vs the supernatural.

24X Irregular Plural Flash Cards - double sided with polka dot print on one side. These are flash cards which are useful to use with Entry Level 3 learners. In the exam, learners are expected to write the plural form of a word. They will be expected to know a list of common plural nouns that don’t follow the usual spelling conventions. Each singular noun and its irregular plural form is on one of the 24 cards. You could add an extension activity and turn this into a matching game ( match the noun to the plural form). Learners could also create a sentence which includes each word.

This is a 31 page PowerPoint which can be used as an introduce your class to Dennis Kelly’s play DNA. The PPT contains eight separate options that can be used as an introductory lesson to the play. The students are to make predictions about what the play is about and what happens in the play. Front book cover analysis with 9 questions to answer relating to the front cover. Taboo - a word, guessing relating to the play. The objective of the game is for a student to sit with their back to the interactive whiteboard. The other students give the student clues and they have to guess the word on the board behind them. Word Scramble - Instead of the teacher giving students a short summary of the play, students will be asked to find this out for themselves by unscrambling the letters on the board. First Lines - Students will make predictions to what the play is about by reading and analysing the first few lines and answering 6 set questions. Students will watch a short news report which relates to the topic of the play. They will then make predictions about the play based on this report. Headline - play prediction task Pictionary - Each group will be given a copy of identical pictures.
